Results of Greenlaw Town Hall questionnaire.

The results of the Greenlaw Town Hall questionnaire were fully explained to the Town Hall Project Committee by Paul Jardine of Jura Consultants at their recent meeting in Greenlaw. 400 copies of the questionnaire had been distributed to Greenlaw households and 122 replies were received. A further 10 were received via the Town Hall website. The response rate of over 30% was considered to be a very good one.

Analysis of the answers to the questionnaire showed that the most popular wish of the community is for a comprehensive restoration of the Hall incorporating facilities for community use. Other uses including conversion to a theatre, housing or offices were also discussed at the meeting and Jura Consultants were instructed to carry out the next stage of the research project. This is to consider, in detail, the business plans for the various options with a view to reporting further to the Project Committee with recommendations in six weeks time. Following the next meeting of the Project Committee in early May it is hoped to arrange a public meeting in Greenlaw.

The Project Committee also considered the requirement for some urgent repair work to prevent further deterioration and Alba Conservation Trust is looking into the possibility of obtaining funding for some specific work to the roofs and internal finishes.

The Committee is keen to keep the community fully informed, not only through the press and by holding public meetings, but through the Town Hall website www.greenlawtownhall.bordernet.co.uk
